Cheese

Hello! My name is Cheese!

Here’s what my friends at Española Humane say about me:

- Meet Cheese and Mouse, the perfect pair of feline companions who are as different as night and day but share an inseparable bond! Cheese is a confident, outgoing 4-year-old tabby who's always ready to greet you with a loud meow and a request for attention. He loves being the center of attention, whether it's snuggling up for pets or just sitting close by. Cheese is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves human companionship and is never shy about seeking it out.

Then there's Mouse, his quieter, more reserved 3-year-old sister. While Cheese is upfront and vocal, Mouse prefers to observe the world from a safe distance, often staying close behind her big brother. She's a bit more cautious but still has plenty of love to give once she feels comfortable. Together, they make a wonderful balance-Cheese's outgoing nature provides reassurance to Mouse, while Mouse's calm demeanor helps balance out Cheese's energetic personality.

This bonded pair has always been indoor cats and should remain indoors for their safety and well-being. They've also been around dogs and have done well with them, making them a great choice for a household with other pets.

Cheese and Mouse are looking for a loving home where they can continue to be the adorable, inseparable duo they are. They'll thrive in a peaceful environment where they can both be themselves-Cheese seeking attention and Mouse taking it all in from her safe spot by his side.

If you're ready to open your heart and home to these two sweethearts, Cheese and Mouse would love to bring their gentle, loving energy to your family!

If you’re interested in adopting me, fill out an application to get a jump start on the process! We don’t offer holds on shelter pets, so c’mon in to meet and greet to decide if you’ve met your match. Applications for pets in foster care, at Ojo Santa Fe, or offsite in other programs will be reviewed by staff before appointments are scheduled.

More Questions?

  • How much does it cost to adopt a pet?

Puppies and kittens range from $10 to $50. Adults over 6 months are usually free. Adoption fees will be higher for certain breeds and in some locations. For example, Ojo Santa Fe puppies are typically $150.

  • How do my adoption fees help the shelter?

Adoption fees help with medical care, food, and shelter for all animals, not just the youngest or cutest. Most of that expense is paid by our fundraising efforts.

  • How can I prepare my home for adoption?

It depends on your floof’s age and whether they’re a dog or cat. Check out our tips for preparing your home for your new pet. We provide you with a “starter kit” of a collar, pet food and treats.

Also learn about the 3-3-3 rule. It takes a new pet 3 days to calm down, 3 weeks to adapt to your family, and 3 months to bond and build trust. Don’t worry. We’ll have more details and other tips in your adoption package.

  • How do I become a foster parent?

It’s simple. Start by filling out a foster application and our team will contact you. Fostering can be as easy as having a litter of young ones in a spare bathroom before they go to an adoption event. Or, maybe you’d like an adult to spend time with your family, just to see how that pet transforms with a little love and attention. We promise it’ll be rewarding.
