Mia
Hello! My name is Mia!
Here’s what my friends at Española Humane say about me:
- Meet Mia, a charming and lovable 7-year-old black and white beauty who is looking for her forever home! Mia came to us as an owner surrender after her previous owner had to move out of town and couldn't take her along. While it's been a tough transition for her, Mia is adjusting wonderfully and ready to find a new family to call her own.
Mia is a sweet and easygoing girl who gets along fabulously with other cats, and she doesn't mind dogs either! She's always been an indoor kitty and will need to stay that way in her new home, especially given her health. Mia has been working hard to lose a little extra weight, and she's made great progress! She's no longer struggling with the discomfort of her abdomen touching the floor, and she's moving around much more freely now.
Mia has a calm demeanor and is simply looking for a cozy spot to relax with her people. She would do best in a quiet environment where she can settle in and enjoy some gentle playtime and lots of love. Her soft, medium-length coat is as sweet as her personality, and she would make a wonderful companion for anyone willing to give her the TLC she deserves.
If you're looking for a kind, low-key cat who will return your affection with purrs and cuddles, Mia might just be the perfect match!
If you’re interested in adopting me, fill out an application to get a jump start on the process! We don’t offer holds on shelter pets, so c’mon in to meet and greet to decide if you’ve met your match. Applications for pets in foster care, at Ojo Santa Fe, or offsite in other programs will be reviewed by staff before appointments are scheduled.

Española Humane
Española Humane offers free services and innovative programs to help suffering pets in underserved communities. For over three decades, we have managed an open-door shelter that welcomes every animal without charge because we believe the most humane approach is to never turn away an animal in need. Spay/neuter access is critical to our mission, and our clinic is completely free to pets in Española, Rio Arriba County, and the surrounding Pueblos.
We’re determined to make a lasting difference and to squeeze every penny out of each donated dollar: 89% of your gift goes directly to the animals.

Become a foster superhero.
Fostering can be as easy as having a litter of young ones in a spare bathroom before they go to an adoption event. Or, maybe you’d like an adult to spend time with your family, just to see how that pet transforms with a little love and attention. We promise it’ll be rewarding.
Join our team of volunteers
Volunteers help every facet of our work, from support at the shelter to helping with adoption events to assistance with animal transport. We provide the training and the welcoming environment. Meet new people, learn new skills, and feel good about helping animals.
Need help finding your pet?
80% of pets are found within a mile of where they went missing. Start searching right away and use printed flyers so people can call you with sightings. An ID tag or microchip will make it a lot easier to find your pet. Hopefully, they’ve already been found and are at our shelter.
