Magpie
Hello! My name is Magpie!
Here’s what my friends at Española Humane say about me:
- Magpie is an adorable 4-month-old black and white kitten with a heartwarming story of resilience. She arrived at our shelter cold and covered in mud, only able to move her head. After a few days of care, she began to regain some mobility, but she still dragged one of her legs and avoided human contact.
Thanks to the compassion of one of our loving veterinarians, Magpie was taken to foster care, where she regained full use of her back legs. While her physical recovery was remarkable, Magpie remained quite timid, often hiding under her foster's bed to observe the world around her. Despite her nervousness, she has never shown any aggressive behavior; she simply needs time to adjust to her new surroundings.
Magpie finds comfort in gentle head rubs and loves to bury her face in your arms, seeking solace in moments of trust. With patience and kindness, this sweet girl has the potential to grow her wings and truly blossom. If you're looking for a gentle companion who needs a little extra love, Magpie is ready to find her forever home where she can thrive at her own pace.
If you’re interested in adopting me, fill out an application to get a jump start on the process! We don’t offer holds on shelter pets, so c’mon in to meet and greet to decide if you’ve met your match. Applications for pets in foster care, at Ojo Santa Fe, or offsite in other programs will be reviewed by staff before appointments are scheduled.

We’re determined to make a lasting difference and to squeeze every penny out of each donated dollar: 89% of your gift goes directly to the animals.

Become a foster superhero.
Fostering can be as easy as having a litter of young ones in a spare bathroom before they go to an adoption event. Or, maybe you’d like an adult to spend time with your family, just to see how that pet transforms with a little love and attention. We promise it’ll be rewarding.
Join our team of volunteers
Volunteers help every facet of our work, from support at the shelter to helping with adoption events to assistance with animal transport. We provide the training and the welcoming environment. Meet new people, learn new skills, and feel good about helping animals.
Need help finding your pet?
80% of pets are found within a mile of where they went missing. Start searching right away and use printed flyers so people can call you with sightings. An ID tag or microchip will make it a lot easier to find your pet. Hopefully, they’ve already been found and are at our shelter.
