Shanice
Hello! My name is Shanice!
Here’s what my friends at Española Humane say about me:
- Shanice is a lovely 2-year-old short-haired grey tabby who has shown remarkable strength and love throughout her journey. Arriving at the shelter scared and skittish with her six neonate kittens, she quickly sought refuge under a table, trembling with fear. With a little coaxing and some tasty wet food, she soon allowed a staff member to handle her and safely placed her in a kennel with her babies.
Despite her initial fright, Shanice never displayed aggression-she simply shook with fear but never bit or swatted. After a few days in our care, she was sent to foster care, where she continued to care for her kittens as they grew. Unfortunately, during this time, one of her little ones tested positive for Panleukopenia. Shanice remained a brave and loving mother, nurturing her kittens even as they faced health challenges. She was under careful watch for several weeks until she was medically cleared.
Now back at the shelter, Shanice's kittens are older and healthy enough to find their forever homes, and it's finally her turn! With time and patience, she is ready to blossom into a loving and caring companion for any household. If you're looking for a gentle soul who deserves a chance at a happy life, come meet Shanice and help her find the love she's been waiting for!
If you’re interested in adopting me, fill out an application to get a jump start on the process! We don’t offer holds on shelter pets, so c’mon in to meet and greet to decide if you’ve met your match. Applications for pets in foster care, at Ojo Santa Fe, or offsite in other programs will be reviewed by staff before appointments are scheduled.

Become a foster superhero.
Fostering can be as easy as having a litter of young ones in a spare bathroom before they go to an adoption event. Or, maybe you’d like an adult to spend time with your family, just to see how that pet transforms with a little love and attention. We promise it’ll be rewarding.
Join our team of volunteers
Volunteers help every facet of our work, from support at the shelter to helping with adoption events to assistance with animal transport. We provide the training and the welcoming environment. Meet new people, learn new skills, and feel good about helping animals.
Need help finding your pet?
80% of pets are found within a mile of where they went missing. Start searching right away and use printed flyers so people can call you with sightings. An ID tag or microchip will make it a lot easier to find your pet. Hopefully, they’ve already been found and are at our shelter.
